How To Clean Windows

January 13, 2024 by choremonster1

There are various ways to clean windows, and you can use different products and methods depending on your preferences and the level of cleanliness required. Here are several approaches to cleaning windows:

how to clean windows
  1. Commercial Glass Cleaners: Most store-bought glass cleaners are effective for regular window cleaning. Simply spray the cleaner on the window surface and wipe it off with a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel.
  2. Vinegar and Water: Create a solution of equal parts white vinegar and water. Spray or dip a cloth or sponge in the solution and use it to clean the windows. Vinegar helps remove streaks and leaves the glass shiny.
  3. DIY Window Cleaner: Mix 2 tablespoons of ammonia, 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol, and 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing liquid with water in a spray bottle. Shake well, spray on the window, and wipe it off with a clean cloth or newspaper for a streak-free shine.
  4. Warm Soapy Water: Fill a bucket with warm water and add a few drops of mild dish soap. Dip a sponge or microfiber cloth into the soapy water, wring it out, and use it to clean the windows. Rinse with clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth.
  5. Lemon Juice: Mix fresh lemon juice with water to create a natural cleaning solution. Lemon juice helps cut through grease and grime on windows.
  6. Club Soda: Pour club soda into a spray bottle and use it to clean your windows. Its carbonation helps dissolve dirt and can leave the glass streak-free.
  7. Homemade Cornstarch Cleaner: Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1/2 cup of water. Apply the mixture to the window, then wipe it clean with a microfiber cloth for a shiny finish.
  8. Steam Cleaner: If you have a steam cleaner with a window cleaning attachment, it can be an effective and chemical-free way to clean windows. The steam loosens dirt and grime, and you can wipe it away with a microfiber cloth.
  9. Squeegee: A squeegee is an excellent tool for streak-free window cleaning. Wet the window with your chosen cleaning solution and use the squeegee in a continuous motion from top to bottom, wiping the blade with a clean cloth between passes.
  10. Microfiber Cloths: Microfiber cloths are excellent for drying and buffing windows after cleaning with your chosen solution. They leave minimal lint and streaks.

Remember to clean both the inside and outside of your windows for the best results. Additionally, avoid cleaning windows on a hot, sunny day as the heat can cause cleaning solutions to dry too quickly and leave streaks.
